Position Overview:

We provide construction inspection services to a broad range of local clients. We are looking for individuals who are interested in joining our team and building their career in the field of construction inspection.

 

We're looking for a person with strong initiative, who will perform routine to complex inspection in the field, in order to verify conformance to construction plans, codes, and specifications.

 

The Inspector / Technician will prepare daily reports and data sheets and may be called upon to perform various tasks at the discretion of the supervisor.

 

Must be able to use a computer and a general knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and photo management software is required. Must have own vehicle, a valid driver’s license and clean driving record required. Must be willing to travel throughout the Wasatch Front.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

·        Inspects buildings; issues permit and contacts contractors and property owners to enforce state and municipal codes.

·        Interprets regulations and codes to builders and property owners

·        Prepares and maintains records of plans, inspections, letters, and reports prepared or used in connection with building inspections.

·        Conducts field inspections for code enforcement and city ordinances.

·        Works closely with code enforcement staff

·        Other duties as assigned.

 

General Knowledge:

·        Ability to locate all construction sites.

·        Knowledge of building construction in all phases including structural, plumbing, mechanical, energy and electrical.

·        Knowledge of various city ordinances, code requirements and zoning ordinances.

·        Good written, oral, and communication skills.

·        Ability to read and understand blueprints, engineering calculations and construction documents.

·        Ability to review plans for compliance.

·        Ability to use computer for a variety of plan review and permit record information and field reporting.

Education and/or Experience:

·        Must be certified and licensed by the State of Utah as a Combination Inspector or be able to become a Certified and Licensed combination Building Inspector within six (6) months of hire.

·        Construction experience

·        Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience.

·        Strong communication skills.

·        Experience in custom software applications

 

Qualifications:

 

Building Inspector I

·        Graduation from high school; AND Two (2) years of responsible experience performing above related duties or in being directly involved in the building trades; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

·        Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License.

·        Must be an I.C.C. or State of Utah Certified Inspector in 1-2 areas of residential or commercial inspection, including plan review, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and building, with 6 months of hire

 

Building Inspector II

·        Graduation from high school, plus Two (2) years of specialized training in commercial, residential or industrial building methods and practices provided through technical college, professional workshops or university studies and Four (4) years of responsible experience performing above or related duties; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

·        Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License.

·        Must be an I.C.C. or State of Utah Certified Inspector in 3-6 areas of residential or commercial inspection, including plan review, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and building.

 

Building Inspector III

·        Graduation from high school, plus, two (2) years of specialized training in building methods and practices related to commercial, industrial and residential structures provided through technical college, professional workshops or university studies and Five (5) years of responsible experience performing above or related duties; or An equivalent combination of education and experience.

·        Must possess a valid Utah Driver's license.

·        Must be an I.C.C. or State of Utah Certified Inspector in 6-8 areas of residential or commercial inspection, including plan review, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and building. Must obtain all eight (8) aforementioned building inspector certifications within one (1) year of becoming a Building Inspector Ill

 

Physical Demands:

·        While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, crawl, climb stand, walk, talk and hear.

·        The employee is occasionally required to use hands to handle or operate objects, controls, or tools.

·        Must be able to reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and smell.

·        The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 40 pounds.

·        Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Work Environment:

·        Work is performed primarily in outdoor settings in all weather conditions including extreme temperature extremes. Some work in office, vehicles, etc.

·        Periodic exposure to stressful situations and extreme weather conditions.

·        The noise level in the work environment ranges from moderate to high.
